IMDA’s inaugural SG:D Industry Day
Held on the 21st of May 2018 at Suntec Convention & Exhibition Centre, the Singapore Digital Industry Day saw an overwhelming turnout of audience across various industries. Each eager to learn more about Singapore’s journey of digital transformation, business owners realized that the way to take charge, to be the industry leader, is to digitized their businesses in this new era.
Packed to the corners of the main hall with as many standing audience as the seated ones, SG:D Industry Day started with an opening address delivered by the Minister for Communications and Information, Mr S. Iswaran with full vigor. The speech touched on SMEs Go Digital program that was rolled-out April last year that has come up with Project Management Services to help SMEs adopt digital technologies and join the Digital Economy.
To strive for the better in the Digital Economy, it is announced with great pleasure by Mr S. Iswaran that the Pan-European Public Procurement On-Line (PEPPOL) will be implemented as the nationwide e-invoicing standard in Singapore. This is to help businesses transact internationally with many overseas business already in the PEPPOL network.
So, what is PEPPOL?
PEPPOL is an open business network that enables the exchange of electronic business documents over the European-wide network. PEPPOL simplifies the purchase-to-pay process mainly between the government (public) sector and its suppliers done across PEPPOL network via certified access points.

After the opening address, the day progressed on with a plenary discussion from the digital luminaries panel. The session saw industry leaders sharing their digitalisation journey as well as the benefits of e-invoice adoption that drives better businesses.
Following a delightful lunch, the session broke into 6 different tracks where audience has the freedom in choosing the most relevant to their businesses.
The massive event also saw audience browsing through the exhibition where countless booths were set up to provide information and numerous services. The exhibitors ranged from Taiger who provides Knowledge Worker Automation solutions, to Personal Data Protection Commission Singapore (PDPC) who helps in data protection, to Data Robot who specializes in automated machine learning. Singapore Institute of Technology who is working with IMDA was also present to promote the GoSecure Programme, an initiative that increases ICT firms’ cyber security capabilities and many more!
